Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tech Lead. As our Tech Lead, you will work remotely and be responsible for designing, building, and scaling robust, low-latency systems that power global financial transactions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and mentor engineers while staying hands-on with the code.

This role is ideal for someone with a fintech background (especially in cross-border transfers), strong architectural experience, and deep backend engineering expertise. Blockchain/crypto experience is a plus. You must reside in the EMEA or APAC time zones for effective collaboration across global teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and implementation of core backend systems and services
• Partner with Product Managers to scope and estimate new work
• Build scalable, event-driven microservices handling high-throughput, low-latency API traffic
• Design and maintain clean, scalable, and secure REST APIs for internal and external integrations
• Collaborate with banking partners, crypto exchanges, and other financial institutions on API integrations and compliance requirements
• Own key systems built on Java, Spring Boot, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and AWS (SQS, Lambda, DynamoDB)
• Oversee technical documentation and API-first design practices.
• Guide data migration efforts. 
• Champion engineering best practices: clean code, TDD, CI/CD, unit/integration testing, and peer reviews
• Support production troubleshooting and continuous system optimization
• Contribute to front-end decisions where needed (experience with TypeScript/React is a plus).
• Drive a culture of continuous learning, quality, and innovation within a global remote team.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent, with 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a lead or architect role.
• Proven fintech experience, especially in cross-border payments or API integrations with banks/FIs.
• Strong expertise in:
  
  • Java, Spring Boot
  • ORMs like JPA/Hibernate
  • MySQL / PostgreSQL
  • AWS managed services – SQS, DynamoDB, RDS, Lambda, EKS ..
  • Microservices and event-driven architectures
  • Messaging & Transaction Management
  • API-first design and high-performance systems
  • Data & schema migration tools like Liquibase

• Solid understanding of:
  
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Automated testing (unit and integration)
  • Secure, scalable infrastructure patterns

• Ability to leverage AI assistants  to increase accelerate development, improve test coverage, and automate repetitive engineering tasks
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Based in Europe, Middle East, or a compatible time zone

Nice to Haves

• Experience with Node.js, Dropwizard, or similar frameworks for backend API service development
• Familiarity with feature flagging, progressive delivery, or config-driven deployments
• Exposure to blockchain/crypto platforms
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript

80k-100k USD per year (Total Comp/Package)
